I know of a woman who wanted things to be different for her because of a lesson she learned the hard way.

You see, she worked in a company that sold products. The top salesman of the year earned a special prize. When she saw the prize that was awarded, she decided then and there, that next year, she would be the winner. She was a woman of her word. She kept her eye on the prize and became top salesperson of the year. Rather than give her the prize she worked for, her company substituted something of lesser value to her. As she stated it, she did what any self-respecting woman would do, she retired!

It was early in the 1960’s. Women were not yet valued in the workforce and certainly not seen as entrepreneurs. She decided to write a book that would help women in their corporate careers. The book turned out to be far more than a self-help guide. It was a revelation. A revelation of her dream job, of how she wanted to show up in the world, her passion and, ultimately, her business plan.

She used the ideas in her book to set up her own cosmetics company.

*Despite being advised by her accountant not to.
*Besides having just lost her husband one month earlier.
*Besides being afraid and uncertain.

Today, 59 years later, her company is debt free, spans the globe in almost 40 countries and gives men and women alike the opportunity to break their glass ceiling.

Her book’s dream to inspire women to self-sufficiency, success and no glass ceilings was realized. She was named the first Woman Entrepreneur of the Century! Who is she? Mary Kay Ash. She created a cosmetics company now worth billions of dollars. One of her favorite sayings was, “Be part of the DIN, DIN Club” – Do it Now, Do it Now.

It all began because she wrote her book. Did she expect it to reveal to her a business plan and a path to incredible success? No. Yet, when she saw it, she took the journey and progressed step by step.
